Chrome Plus

Chrome Plus is hard chrome with Teflon®. This coating offers many of the same features and benefits as chromium plating, that is, low coefficient of friction and excellent wear capabilities. One would choose this coating over chromium when looking for good wear and extra release. This coating will have a hardness of 68 to 70 Rc. In regards to salt spray testing (ASTM), this coating exceeds 500 hours without showing any signs of breaking down.

The coefficient of friction is lower than chrome, approximately .10. The increased lubricity is especially well suited with molding applications utilizing plastic, epoxy, silicone and rubber, as well as fire retardant and glass filled materials. This coating offers excellent release and is often used where most other coatings fail in those areas.

A standard plating procedure is used to apply this coating and it can be easily achieved. Plating thickness ranges from .0001 to .001, but is usually in the .0001 to .0002 range. This coating can be polished to a SPI A2 finish.
